Sketchbook Daily Drawings

Hey, it's been a while since I've updated the blog, so I figured I'd upload some of my sketches from my little moleskine.

^ 5 page spread of just general chaos, just me taking something way too far

^ Mailer idea

^ sketches involving some friends, a lot of my personal work is like this

^ First image is depicting a story I heard at camp from fellow co-counselors, and the image on the right is a terrible concept for a ghost that was actually used in one of my illustrations. See! It's shaped like a G! For Ghost! It was for a halloween themed alphabet book! So clever!

More stuff to come, I've been quite busy lately.

Thai Cowboys

This project revolved around an article focusing on modern-day cowboys living in Thailand.  I let myself fool around a little this time, and decided against my standard burnt sienna/white underpainting.

Nude woman as I see her naturally

A painting I was doing of a nude model took an experimental twist today when I accidentally destroyed my last pair of contact lenses. I was afraid to progress, but I ended up going over my initial brushstrokes to depict what I was seeing despite my severe nearsightedness. I'm happy with the result, and may continue to layer color and paint on this image with the four sessions we have left with the model.

I worked a little more on my Danny Hellman piece, it's gonna need some more work, but I thought I'd post the progress.

Another change of shirt was in order, that area needs a LOT of work.

Applications Project

For this project, we had to choose the work of a professional illustrator and make a piece using his or her visual style. I chose Danny Hellman, whose art deals mainly with editorial work. his blog can be found here.

The piece was a pencil drawing that was inked and then colored using Photoshop

Here's an update of my self portrait, things are looking quite chalky. I tried to rush on the eyes again! D'oh.

Still Life for Realist Methods

I also want to post the previous assignment, which was a still life comprised mostly of junk.
Again, sorry for the awful image quality, I used my camera phone. :\

Self Portrait for Realist Methods

Right now for my Realist methods course I'm working on a self portrait. (18x24) It's still in it's early stages, and I'm really looking forward to laying on the thick paint. This is an awful photo, the colors I'm using are totally getting lost.

As of right now, I'm working on top of a charcoal drawing, which is why there are a lot of black/muddy areas.
